I was swept away to a magical place with this beautiful story, All The Breaking Waves! From the first descriptions of Molly's treasured sea glass, I felt like I was on the beach with her sensing the incredible feeling of finding these wonderful colorful pieces. Molly's keen talent for designing jewelry from sea glass was like her innate ability, the incredible gift she had for sensing premonitions. She feared this surreal ability that she and her daughter Cassie also had. Cassie was experiencing terrible nightmares and held unspeakable danger that Molly had to stop. Her grandmother also had this ability but would not speak to Molly about it, nor would she share the secrets that she held about herself. Owen was Molly's love that she had run from years ago. She fought her renewed feelings for him but still kept her secrets; she needed him. I loved this story, the warmth feelings depicted, the dogs Mudd and Dirt, the waves, the beach, the delicious dishes in Nana's kitchen, the love that existed between Mothers and daughters. I laughed and cried, with characters that became so real. A story full of love, of family, children's fun, suspense, romance, yet excruciating fear, and heartbreaking sadness. This was delightful and rich story you won't want to end. There is magic in sea glass treasures, and in this must read book you don't want to miss.4 likes
This book pulled me in quickly and I was fully invested through the last page. I love the premise and the characters. I LOVED the setting. The relationship between Molly and Owen couldn't have been written better. I loved them and their story. I also got great joy out of Cassie and Owen's relationship. The author did an amazing job with these characters. I feel like her love of the characters really shows in this book.****************Some spoilers below.****************I hold a star back on my review because as I read, the main character, Molly, often became obtuse and a little annoying. If someone I trust tells me they believe my grandmother is dying, I'm going to find out what's going on NOW. I'm not going to put it off or let anything else interfere with finding out the truth. I feel like important talks and important information was withheld or delayed throughout the book on purpose to prolong the story when it didn't need to be. There is plenty of story in this book. There was plenty to keep me interested without using plot tricks to keep me hanging on and I feel like the 'drowning' and 'choking' bit was a trick. As a reader, I didn't need the revelation that "OMG! Cassie never said I would drown." I came to that conclusion on my own, it didn't need to be said. The visions where suggestive and Cassie never got the entire vision since she didn't have the dreams, we readers understood that without the over dramatic OMG moment. That being said, I would have believed this ending better without the 'misunderstanding'. It would have been a little more realistic if Molly would have just admitted to being confused. As I read, I imagined a million other scenarios for the outcome of Cassie's visions and while I think choking was a good alternative, I take issue with the way it was presented and resolved.I'm still very much a fan of Kerry Lonsdale, and I must admit, the soulmate aspect of this book really pulled me in. Well done!
Cassie is suspended from school after trying to persuade her best friend to wear her bike helmet after having a vision of her having an accident with her head fractured and blood all around. Her mother, Molly, is called to pick her up after talking with the principal.Molly and her daughter go to Nana Mary's in hopes that she will help Cassie learn to control her gift. All of them have different gifts but they are able to communicate telepathically as long as they do not block one another. Molly also meets up with her first love, Owen. Things look bleak for Molly when Cassie has a premonition of her death.Lonsdale does a great job of dealing with the paranormal aspects of this book. She also does a good job of healing the broken places of her characters. I generally hate it when authors go back in time to give us backstory but Lonsdale does this deftly and doesn't overuse the devise. I highly recommend this book to people who enjoy a good story and compelling characters.
I liked the bond of family and close friends in this book. The whole family had a ‘gift’ that was the same but of different usage. They dealt with the good and negativities of these ‘giftsâ€. There are a few twist in this book that makes this book is worth reading. And can I just say, I fell in love with Owen.
I have now read all three books written by this author and, as stated by another reviewer, am in withdrawal. I love her characters who are written with such clarity that I feel as though they are friends. This book was beautifully crafted especially when you consider the subject matter - psychic abilities. Writing about the women in Molly's family with their profound psychic abilities could have been corny or could even have leaned toward the horrific. That is not how Ms. Lonsdale handled it. Their psychic power was discussed in a matter of fact manner with the predicted response from those who were close to them. This was not a silly "Bewitched" knock-off but, rather, a sensitive book about women with amazing abilities.I think that I love Kerry Lonsdale's books because they are set in the Central Coast of California, a place that I dearly love, and because she is truly a gifted writer. I have now read everything that she has written and am looking forward to more from this wonderful author.
