From Booklist
Even people who don't know country music from Kaopectate know Dolly Parton, the big-in-front, big-on-top blonde with the perky, little-girl voice who seems sometimes a hick Mae West and sometimes sweeter than Little Mary Sunshine. Given her obvious assets, the tabloid crowd knows her, too, which only increases the appeal of her memoirs. Well, she's more Mary than Mae here, with plenty of vanilla-lite sex-talk and spoofing of her persona ("It costs a lot to make a person look this cheap," etc.) but nary a word about extramarital tumbles or surgical augmentation of her charms. She explains that while she does indeed sleep with longtime friend Judy Ogle, it's not, never was, what suspicious minds think. She praises husband Carl Dean every time she speaks his name, and she doesn't say anything catty about Porter Wagoner, on whose TV show she found fame in the early 1970s and with whom she famously fought. In short, Dolly's so squeaky clean and nice that a reader can't help wondering why HarperCollins wouldn't countenance advance reviews and sent out no early copies. The book contains no secrets to expose, no juice to spill. That doesn't mean it's flat--coming from Dolly, how could it be? It's an entertaining country music rags-to-riches story, full of just enough humor and heart to thoroughly charm the fans. Ray Olson

This was a great book with so much feeling behind it. If you get the chance to listen to the audio version, even though it is slightly abridged, Dolly's reading is amazing and so emotional. I have never listened to an audio book that had the reader actually having to slow down the reading because she was crying. Just beautiful.
I absolutely loved Dolly's autobiography. She's witty and funny, and writes as though she's talking directly to her reader. Great story.
Thank you to the seller to get me a new copy at a reasonable price! Dolly I remember as kid has been one of my favorites though I am not much of a country music fan but I like hers. Love her jokes and quotes makes me happy and laugh! She is a inspiration!
Very heartfelt n inspirational
Did you know that Dolly Parton once got lost and hitched a ride on a cow all the way home? Or that she cut her foot open on a piece of glass and her family held her down while her mother stitched her up? That she met her husband while hanging around outside a laundromat, waiting for her laundry to dry, while wearing a midriff top and bell bottoms? All this and more..gotta love Dolly. Funny, honest, intelligent and straight forward.Get it!
I really enjoyed her relating her rise to the stardom she worked to perfect..A true believer in God's Will in her life...
I read this as part of my book club. We were to pick an autobiography of a musician or band. Great book about how Dolly got her start. Reading about her childhood really makes you appreciate what all she has accomplished. She is a positive person and it's always good to hear from someone with a good outlook on life. You don't get a lot of the dirt, but who needs it? I hope she writes more down the road about how the rest of her life is going since this book was published.
Very happy with my purchase.
