I love this series. Trial of Three picks up were Mistake of Magic leaves off. Lera's quint's training techniques aren't working. Cole is the only one who is not going easy, his training is brutal and direct, but his sacrificing himself to the process is unacceptable to Lera. She confronts him and goads him into bonding with her. Their first time together is explosive.The Elders, Klarissa in particular is not happy with how Lera's training is going. She steps in and once again forces their hands. She has her own agenda and River is key to getting what she wants. Tye is ordered to teach felx fire, a precision technique using fire magic, and Lera is ordered to his class as she can tap is magic. All he wants to do is keep her safe. All she wants is to be more than a liability to her men.Kora's quint has been sent on their third trial. Autumn begs River to go after them when the dead line approaches and they have not returned. River refuses as Lera steps up, forcing her quint to follow. River gets the council to agree to use their rescue mission as their 3rd trial. River bonds Lera to protect her. When they find Kora they also fine something unexpected. Lera taps her quints power to save them all. River is faced with his past and a betrayal that has him fearing for the future and keeping Lera and is quit safe, along with the rest of Lunos. Once again Lera has to step up and River finally confesses all to her. Now they train and plan on how to take down a powerful traitor.I love this series. This is not a stand alone story. Fast paced and steamy. Can't wait for the next book.
Alex' first two series were outstanding and i enjoyed arts of this series to, but I am not a fan of titillation and its constant presence in this third book and am saddened by the devolution of a promising writer.but less discriminating readers will be enthralled Im sure by the sex and the syrupy goo served up here.
This book was probably my favorite so far in this series. We learn a little more about Lera’s role in the quint as a weaver and we actually get to see what exactly a quint weaver does towards the end of the book.Lera is still the same stubborn and witty character from the start of the series. She has become more confident with herself as a part of this quint.The relationships are progressing between Lera and the males. In other words, there is more steamy sexy times in this book than the previous 2 :) The relationships are progressing more than just on a physical level though. Lera is gaining the trust of the males and learning about their painful pasts that even their quint mates did not know to the full extent. We are learning more about why each male behaves the way they do.The author has done an amazing job with this story. The world building and storyline is unique and creative. I can’t wait to finish reading this series to see how much stronger Lera’s quint becomes, the outcome of Klarissa’s meddling, and Jawrar’s attempt to take over Lunos.
Trial of Three is the 3rd book of the Power of Five series and I seriously don't know how Alex Lidell does it!This book is absolutely amazing. In this book, the story continues with Lera trying to master her magic of weaving but doing poorly at it. As usual Cole training is not only direct and brutal, but he's willing to do what is necessary, even if it means that he torture himself with his memories to help Lera gain control. Lera is unwilling to allow him to torture himself like that and confronts him. Lera ends up goading him to bond with her. The scene is absolutely explosive and hot!Alex continues to weave her magic, drawing you in, making you feel what Lera, River, Coal, Tye and Shade feel and live. All I can say is that you must read the series in order. She'll make you fall in love with the male of the quint!
Yowza!!! This series just keeps getting better and BETTER!! Lera slowly but surely is coming into her power. She's definitely under pressure to learn how to use each and every part of this mysterious power. Although her greatest power seems to be her ability to peel back the layers of each of her quint mates. I for one can't wait to see what happens when their quint finally become truly united with no more layers left to peel back. For I'm guessing at that point any enemy will tremble in their wake. I also can't wait for that manipulative cow...er excuse me Elder who is trying to pull River's strings gets her comeuppance. I'm just curious if it will be River, Autumn or Lera who takes her down. Cannot wait to see how this all ends in the next book.....sure to be filled with lots of excitement, action, political machinations and love.
Lera even though she is the only mortal in Lunos she is learning to hold her own. The things she is learning will be amazing once she has full control of the weaving. In the meant time it is fun to see her destroy stuff.I am excited that finally mostly everyone has opened up to her, which has allowed their quaint to progress in their magic. What I am confused about is what exactly Tye wants from the relationship. He fighting a past and you can tell he wants more than just a fleeting thing. But I feel like Lera has proven that she wants more than just fun from all of them.I love the constants fights between Shade’s wolf and Tye. There the perfect little comic reliefs the story ways needs. Can’t wait for book 4 hopefully Tye will solidify the bond with Lera finally.
I cannot even go over the multitude of emotions this book caused. At one point, I started crying from the pain lera went through because of the men. The joy that she experience and the anger she burned with. I truly was surprised at the depth to the happy go lucky tye. My love for coal grew exponentially just as my hatred for river popped up out of nowhere. The ending was epic and it truly leaves me so sad that I have to wait for the next damn installment. Alex is absolutely amazing.
