I found this to be an extremely well written book, and I found it through, believe it or not, via one of those “Amazon Ads†that seem to proliferate my “faceBook†news feed these days, so at times one does indeed find “a rose amongst the thornsâ€.As I read “Revenge at Snake Bend†by author Joseph Powell I was indeed reminded of the first Louis L’Amour title I read “back in the dayâ€.Joseph Powell has published a western in the true “classic western tradition†and what I mean by that is that it isn’t laced with “profanityâ€, nor is it filled with scenes of “explicit sex†but it is filled with plenty of action to keep you interested.While the story line (plot) revolves “primarily†around one character, “Clayton (Clay) Wallace†there are a multitude of others and they are all extremely well developed.The editing of the book I found to be exceptional as there were none of those “stop and re-read†moments which so often occur in eBook offerings (as well as some print editions).I HIGHLY Recommend “Revenge at Snake Bend†by Joseph Powell to those of you, who like myself enjoy reading very good books, regardless of the genre (or category in which Amazon, and others) may “pigeon hole†them. Author Joseph Powell has weaved two great characters... one good Clayton Wallace, and one bad August Graves, which makes for a very interesting western. I enjoyed Powell's story even though as one reviewer wrote, it stretches the imagination that Clayton was the youngest General in the Civil War.If you like to read a good western, I recommend this book.Joe Corso,Author of Shootout in Cheyenne
I could not get through this book fast enough. Most of the good guys got killed or wounded. The main character couldn't hit the side of a barn with his gun. He was shot in each shoulder with a bullet and once with an arrow and never got medical help for any of his wounds and never slowed down. He planned this big revenge for the murder of his sister but had no plan . Don't believe I will read this author again.
This has to be the worst western I have ever tried to read. I did manage to make to to chapter 31 but the plot was so bad i finally quit. The "hero" of the story is out for revenge and willing to commit murder to do it. But half way through the story he implausibly skipped every chance he's had and managed to get half his family killed. All the while he keeps getting shot and within a day he's fine. Like a 44 through the shoulder in the 1860's would heal itself overnight. Sorry to say at .99 this cost 1.00 to much.
Book kinda reminded me of the movie, the gang that couldn't shoot straight. Book drags on too much, with what could have been a much simpler story. Can not recommend.
I rarely write reviews for books but this was one of the worst westerns, I’ve ever read. The characters were poorly developed and theâ€hero†of the story was a moron who rarely shot straight, besides the fact that he got shot “through the shoulder†with no apparent effect except some soreness later. Just too many totally unbelievable parts to this book.
This book was not even close to the caliber of Louis L'Amour. I tried to get through it, but finally had to stop and purchase another western. I admit, it would take an awesome writer to fill Louis L'Amour's shoes, but this guy isn't even close. Would not buy another one of these books.
If you think you'd enjoy reading about a main character that can't seem to think and plan and basically stumbles through everything, can't seem to shoot, and doesn't know that you should stop the bleeding before you move your injured brother, then definitely get this book.Additionally, if you enjoy insipid writing, you'll find no better.
